Did you know that the Greater Charlotte area is a birth center desert and is in dire need of alternative birth options? A birth center desert? What does that even mean, you ask? It means that our area has limited or no access to community birth center care, either due to lack of birth centers or barriers to accessing birth centers. It has been proven that the midwifery model of care increases opportunities to have safe, quality care with better outcomes for low risk pregnancies and births because they trust, support, and honor physiological birth.
Right now, there is only one birth center serving families in the Charlotte area and it is 40 minutes north of Charlotte. Insert Well Body and Birth! We are here to increase access to women’s wellness, reproductive health, and out-of-hospital birth options to our community.

In March 2022, we took the first step towards making this a reality and have been working diligently ever since to open a doula-owned birth center in the Greater Charlotte area. As doulas, we know the importance of having a wide range of birthing options at your fingertips. We often hear from birthing families about the lack of out-of-hospital and non-obstetric options. However, our potential stakeholders don’t always see that need or understand that this is a desire of our community. We need you to help open their eyes by completing this survey. It will also allow us to further see the services that are most desired by those we serve… you!
